How To make Hakamas!

Hakamas

These are quick & dirty fighting pants that you can throw on over other trousers to save wear & tear. They are worn much like Japanese Hakama.
I recommend using a sturdy fabric with not too much stiffness. Make sure to wash & dry the material first to ensure all the shrinkage happens before you sew them up!

Measure the crotch area of the pants by using a tape measure from your navel to the small of your back directly opposite your navel. Add 2 " to that measure if you're average, at least 4" if you're prosperous (ie chubby). Measure your waist. Measure your leg length from navel height to ankle .

Cut out two squares of fabric that is the waist +4" by leg length +4" as above. Sew hems at the top & bottom to prevent fraying. On the top hem it is advisable to sew in the waist ties at this point. Fold each fabric in half along the leg axis. Using 1/2 the crotch measurement mark a gentle curve to mimic the shape of the tummy. Cut along this mark & unfold the fabric
Join the two pieces of fabric at the crotch curve as above.

It is often useful to add some reinforcing fabric at the crotch of lighter fabrics

To tie the pants, straddle the crotch area & tie the back two ties around to the front & then tie the front two ties around to the back.
